Community of Practice Session [February 4th]

January 24th, 2011

In this COPS we will focus on two topics.

Teacher Engagement- What Can Curriculum Leaders Do?
Following up on Bill Rich’s session “Student Engagement-What Can Curriculum Leaders Do?”, it seems evident that a first step in improving student engagement that is directly connected to the role of curriculum leaders is doing all we can to provide them with engaged teachers.  To begin the discussion, we will review the first chapter of Breaking Free from Myths About Teaching and Learning by Allison Zmuda (this will be sent to participants) and then share what we know and think about professional development—defining it and differentiating it.

Implementing the Common Core State Standards
Sheila Rivers, a VTCLA Steering Committee member, and now also one of the six members of the Vermont team that will participate in the Implementing the Common Core System State Collaborative on Assessment and Standards, will share  her insights of what is to come based on the first meeting of the group in Washington in late January.

Please join us for good, important and useful conversation that will be even richer with your participation.
